To do our part for the environment, we use sustainable farming methods and integrated pest management. We have completed an Environmental Farm Plan.

By properly maintaining the sod with timely cutting and watering, we reduce stress on the plants. By reducing stress on the plants - which results in disease, infestation, and weeds - we are able to reduce the use of chemicals.

Healthy soil is one of the greatest assets for our sod. To maintain the health of the soil, we amend with organic matter and practice crop rotation.

Our family's roots in the landscaping business run deep. From Holland to Canada, the Heuver family's involvement in landscaping has spanned decades.

In 1959, Tony Heuver immigrated to Canada from Holland.  After working on a farm in the Calgary area, Tony started a landscaping company.  In 1962, Tony’s brother, Henry, also emigrated from Holland and together they incorporated the landscaping company.

In 1966, they purchased land near Strathmore to start a sod farm and nursery.  For a number of years they worked together and in 1970, they decided to divide the company.  Henry took over the landscaping company and Tony and his family took over the nursery and sod farm, incorporating it Eagle Lake Nurseries Ltd.

In 1998, son Eric Heuver and his wife, Rosalie, purchased the sod farm division of Eagle Lake Nurseries Ltd. and thus began Eagle Lake Turf Farm Ltd.  Since then, the size of the turf farm has tripled and, along with growth in size, the business has embraced technological innovations and greatly increased efficiency.
